Martin's Window Cleaning Corp. (MWCC) began high-rise window cleaning operations in 1975. Over the years, services have expanded to include new construction clean-ups, pressure cleaning, caulking, sealing, glass restoration, architectural metal maintenance and other related building services. Further expansion occurred with the incorporation of the metal refinishing division, now known as Diamond Metal Refinishing Systems, Inc.

 

Throughout the years, Martin's Window Cleaning Corp. has assumed a leadership role in the window cleaning industry.

 

Internationally, Martin's Window Cleaning Corp. serves on the board of directors of the International Window Cleaning Association.

 

Nationally, Martin's Window Cleaning Corp. is a member of the ANSI A 120 and a founding member on the ASME A41 Committee and ANSI IWCA I14 Committee. Our Safety Director participates on both committees which are engaged in promulgating National Consensus Standards for the window cleaning industry.

 

Locally, Martin's Window Cleaning Corp. works closely with IREM's Legislative Committee and BOMA's Government Affairs Committee as an advocate for improved safety in the window cleaning industry.

T. Theresa Martin, CEO

Born in Fort Worth, Texas, on January 25, 1947, and raised in Houston, Texas, Ms. Martin was educated in the Spring Branch School District.  While raising a family and managing the offices of Martin’s Window Cleaning Corp., Ms. Martin continued her education, completing 41 hours in computer science and business courses at the University of Houston.  With a 4.0 grade average, she is a member of Phi Theta Kappa, the International Scholastic Honorary for two year colleges.

 

Ms. Martin served as an officer and on the Board of Directors of the International Window Cleaning Association (IWCA) from 1994-1997. Ms. Martin also served on the IWCA’s Executive Committee for three years, as well as chairman of the High Rise Counsel and the Membership Committees. 

 

 

Ms. Martin has been an advocate for window cleaning safety for many years, working closely with the International Window Cleaning Association, the Institute of Real Estate Manager’s (IREM) Legislative Committee, and the Building Owner’s and Managers Association (BOMA) International’s Government Affairs Committee.  Ms. Martin is a member of the ANSI/IWCA’s I 14.01-2001 Window Cleaning Safety Standard Committee which developed and published the first General Industry Safety Standard for Window Cleaning.

 

In 1992, Ms. Martin successfully completed the Scaffold Industry Association’s Safety Program for Suspended Scaffolds and received her certification (#541) after passing the five hour written examination.

 

In 1994, Ms. Martin was recognized by the Houston Business Journal as one of the Top 20 Women Owned Business in Houston.  In 1996 Ms. Martin was a speaker at the International Window Cleaning Association’s annual convention in Orlando. As a recognized business owner, Ms. Martin was interviewed and reported by the Wall Street Journal and was featured in the Sept/Oct. issue of Independent Business Magazine.

 

In 2003, in Atlanta, GA, Ms. Martin was the only recipient of the ETTORE Award.  The Safety Director of the International Window Cleaning Association presented Ms. Martin with the award at the closing banquet of their annual convention.  This award is given “In recognition for unselfish support and devotion to the International Window Cleaning Association.”

 

In 2005, in Orlando, FL, Ms. Martin was asked to swear in the new officers of the International Window Cleaning Association and to install the newly elected President.  She also serves on the Finance Committee of the International Window Cleaner Certification Institution.

 

In 2006, in Nashville, TN, Ms. Martin once again was asked to install the newly elected President and give the installation speech.

 

Dana C. Taylor, Executive Vice President

 

 

A native Houstonian, Ms. Taylor was educated in the Spring Branch School District and attended Stephen F. Austin State College before marrying and ultimately raising three children.  Ms. Taylor became Office Manager at Martin's Window Cleaning Corporation in June of 1989.  Her natural enthusiasm, effervescence, and professional integrity quickly propelled her to her current position as Executive Vice President of Martin’s Window Cleaning Corporation.   Ms. Taylor is the Sales and Marketing Director for Diamond Metal Refinishing Systems, Inc. and the Vice President of The M Consulting Group, Inc.  Both of these corporations are affiliated with Martin’s Window Cleaning Corporation.

 

 

 

International Window Cleaning Association  (IWCA)

Ms. Taylor is extremely involved in the International Window Cleaning Association.  She has been traveling across the United States to attend the annual conventions and board meetings since 1991.

 

  • In 2006, Ms. Taylor served as Immediate Past-President of the IWCA.  She chaired the Education Committee, Industry Relations Committee, and the Editorial Review Board, while serving on the Executive Committee, the Finance Committee, the International Committee, and the Committee on Tempered Glass Quality.
  • Ms. Taylor was the 2005 President of the International Window Cleaning Association.  As, President, Ms. Taylor represented the IWCA, taking the safety message to Italy.
  • In 2004, she was elected to serve as President-Elect; and served as chairperson of the Education Committee.
  • In 2003, Ms. Taylor was elected as the treasurer and served as chairperson for the Convention Committee.
  • In 2002, she was elected Secretary of the Association and served as chairperson for the Membership/Communications Committee. 
  • Ms. Taylor was elected to the Board of Directors in 1999, serving a three year term, and was then elected to the Executive Board in 2001.
  • In February 1996, Ms. Taylor was awarded the ETTORE Award by the IWCA in recognition of her unselfish support and devotion to the International Window Cleaning Association. 
  • Ms. Taylor served two years on the Seminar Committee and invited the Past President of Houston BOMA to be a featured speaker at the 1995, 1996, and 1997 annual conventions.   
  • She served as Chairperson of the Special Events Committee, both in 1993 and 1994, coordinating the Entertainment, Sponsorship, and Volunteer Programs. 

 

International Window Cleaner Certification Institute  (IWCCI)    

  • In 2006, Ms. Taylor served as the Chair of the Board of Trustees of the International Window Cleaner Certification Institute (IWCCI), and was instrumental in the transfer of ownership of the Certification Program from the IWCCI to the International Window Cleaning Association (IWCA).           
  • In 2004, Ms. Taylor served as Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the International Window Cleaner Certification Institute (IWCCI).  The institute’s bi-lingual study curriculum is based on the ANSI I-14 Window Cleaning Safety Standard, training window cleaners in proper and safe techniques.  It is the first and only institute of its kind.

 

Houston Building Owners and Managers Association  (BOMA)

  • Ms. Taylor has been an active member of BOMA since 1991, attending the monthly luncheons, educational seminars, and participating in all related functions.
  • Ms. Taylor has attended BOMA’s annual Southwest Region Conference since 1995 and BOMA’s International Convention each year since1997.
  • Ms. Taylor served seven years on BOMA’s Trade Show Committee, chairing the highly successful 1995 “Boot Scootin’ BOMA” Trade Show, after having served as vice-chair in 1994.  She designed MWCC=s trade show booths, winning first place in 1993 and 1995, and winning third place in 1997.   Ms. Taylor rejoined the committee in 2003, and has remained an active member. 
  • Ms. Taylor chaired the Membership Committee in 1995 after serving two years as the Vice-chair and coordinating the first membership drive.
  • Ms. Taylor is currently serving her 12th year on the Annual Charity Golf Tournament Committee which benefits the Harris County Children’s Protective Services, raising over $100,000,000.00 for that worthy cause. In 1999 and 2000, Ms. Taylor served on the Southwest Region Committee where she chaired the Regional TOBY Awards Committee, responsible for planning the reception and formal banquet for the Southwest Region Conference held in Houston in April of 2000. 
  • Ms. Taylor is an avid supporter of BOMA’s Building of the Year Awards Program; she is currently serving her 12th year on the Office Building of the Year (TOBY) Awards Committee, after having co-chaired the committee for three years.
  • Throughout the years, she has also worked on numerous other committees as well as participating in a number of BOMA’s Strategic Planning Sessions, helping to formulate BOMA’s long range goals.
  • In 1994 she was elected to serve a three-year term on BOMA’s Allied/Professional Members Council. In1997 Ms. Taylor was elected to Chair the Allied/Professional Members Council, and was reelected in 1998 to second term, and a third term in 2001. 
  • Her extremely active participation in BOMA, led her to win the Member of the Year Award.

 

Institute of Real Estate Managers  (IREM)

  • In 1994, Ms. Taylor was invited to become a Friend of IREM in the Houston chapter of the Institute of Real Estate Managers.  She has shown her continued support by attending the monthly luncheons and functions, as well as serving on many IREM’s committees.
  • While serving on IREM’s Membership Services Committee for six years, each year MWCC sponsored the Annual IREM Hi-Tee Golf Day and helped to organize the annual Christmas Parties.
  • Ms. Taylor has served on the IREM/BOMA Golf Committee for the last ten years and has been a sponsor of the Tournament each of those years.  She has been a Corporate Sponsor for the last four years.
  • Due to her continued support of IREM, Ms. Taylor was nominated in 1996, 1997, 2004 and 2006 for the Friend of IREM Award.

 

Scaffold Industry Association  (SIA)

·         In 1996, Ms. Taylor successfully completed the Scaffold Industry Association’s Safety Program for Suspended Scaffolds and received her certification (#1155) after passing the five hour written examination. She frequently consults with architects and general contractors in the design and installation of fall protection anchors, socket and davit systems and permanent installations.

 

Cassandra Huffman, Safety Director

   

Born in Bryan, Texas, on November 14, 1949, and raised in Houston, Tripoli, Libya, and Madrid, Spain, Ms. Huffman was educated in the Spring Branch School District as well as abroad and is married and the mother of four children.

 

Ms. Huffman became the office manager at Martin's Window Cleaning Corp. (MWCC) in June 1991, learning the window cleaning business from the ground up.

A genuine commitment to create an atmosphere where all employees actively care for each other and a desire to maintain an on going incident/injury free environment is a vision that is shared by all employees of MWCC and lead to Ms. Huffman's appointment as Safety Director. This vision requires constant coaching, the willingness to be coached, and the courage to take the risk of making what others say is impossible a reality.

 

In preparation for her position, Ms. Huffman completed the following training:

  • The Scaffold Industry Association's Safety Program for Suspended Scaffolds - Certificate #1740-1/98.
  • Purdue University Calument's Scaffold Erection and Safety Course"-Certificate awarded for 40 contact hours-3/98.
  • A 10-hour Occupation Safety & Health Training Course in Construction Safety & Health -1 0/21/98.
  • The Scaffold Industry Association's "Competent Person Seminar" -5/14/98.
  • Sky Climber Operator Training Course-Certificate #3039-12/98.
  • Horizon High Reach's "The Safe and Efficient Operation of Boom Supported Aerial Work Platforms"-2/99.
  • The International Window Cleaning Association's "Operations Safety & Low Rise Equipment Safety Program" -at the 1998 and 1999 Annual Conventions.
  • The International Window Cleaning Association's "Suspended Equipment & Accident Analysis Safety Program" in San Antonio, Texas, and Nashville, Tennessee.
  • SIA's "Scaffold User Hazard Awareness Course" taken at the 1999 SIA Convention in Baltimore, Maryland.
  • SIA's Suspended Scaffolds Seminar- 1999 SIA Convention in Baltimore, Maryland.

 

Ms. Huffman's field experience in rigging techniques includes attending PMI/Petzel's Rope and Rescue Clinics in Lafayette, Georgia (1996) and Donner Pass, California (1997) and inspections of on-sit rigging/scaffolding in the Las Angeles area (1998) under the supervision of Harold Giddish, 2nd Vice President of the Scaffold Industry Association and chief instructor of the SIA's Suspended Scaffold Course.

Ms. Huffman is an active member of the International Window Cleaning Association, traveling across the USA to attend annual conventions, board meetings, and safety committee meetings.  Ms. Huffman, representing Martin’s Window Cleaning Corp., is a founding member of the ANSI/IWCA I 14.01-2001 Window Cleaning Safety Standard Committee, contributing to the writing of the newest industry safety standard.  Ms. Huffman is also a member of the ASME A.120.1 Committee on Safety Requirements for Powered Platforms for Building Maintenance. She is the first and only woman to sit on this 30 year old committee. She attends these meetings to keep abreast of, and contribute to, amendments and addendums to these standards and their affect on the window cleaning industry as a whole, as well as it’s application to the real estate industry.  In July of 2004 Ms. Huffman was appointed trustee and secretary to the International Window Cleaning Certification Institute (IWCCI). The institute’s bi-lingual curriculum is based on the ANSI IWCA I-14 Window Cleaning Safety Standard, training window cleaners in proper and safe techniques in ground, low rise and high rise applications.

 Ms. Huffman is very active in the International Window Cleaning Association, attending International and Regional conventions and seminars.   She helped to organize, and was a guest speaker, at the first annual “Ladies Tea” held at the 1999 International Window Cleaning Association Convention, to recognize the role of professional women in the window cleaning industry,

 

Ms. Huffman frequently conducts classes on window cleaning safety training for property management companies and large corporations.  She also teaches the safe and proper use of window cleaning equipment at national and regional seminars.

“As the Safety Director for Martin’s Window Cleaning Corporation, my responsibility is to stay abreast of all applicable federal, state, and local codes, regulations, and standards as they apply to window cleaning, transfer that information through our safety and training program to our employees, insure that all applicable codes, regulations, and standards are being applied on every job site through periodic inspections, and assure our customers through written and verbal communications that our operations are in compliance.  It is the goal of Martin’s Window Cleaning Corp. to partner with our customers to provide sound, identified, certified roof anchors on every job site.”

Martin Esqueda, Vice President of Operations

 

       

Born and raised in Tamazula, Mexico, Mr. Esqueda began his career in window cleaning in 1981. His hard work, loyalty and fairness served to promote him to foreman and later to his current position as Vice President of Operations with Martin's Window Cleaning Corp. Mr. Esqueda is married and the father of two daughters.

 

In February 1994, Mr. Esqueda attended the International Window Cleaning Association's convention in Reno, Nevada, and completed the two-day Window Cleaning Safety Training Program.

 

 

 

In 1997, Mr. Esqueda and eight of his crew leaders attended the IWCA's convention in San Antonio, Texas, where he was honored by the IWCA as "Window Cleaner of the Year." That same year, Mr. Esqueda completed PMI-Petzel's Rope and Rescue Clinic at Donner Pass, Nevada.

 

Mr. Esqueda's daily duties include estimating, scheduling, supervising field crews and operations. Mr. Esqueda works closely with Martin's Window Cleaning Corporation's Safety Director, Cassandra Huffman, planning and conducting safety meetings and making daily job site inspections.

 

 Mr. Esqueda is currently pursuing his certification by the Scaffold Industry Association's Safety Program for Suspended Scaffolds.
